Relevance and Benefits
In addition to the compilation of one of the largest sets of long-term water-quality data with extensive statewide coverage which support the USGS mission to assess and characterize the water resources of the United States, the data from this project, available online at http://waterdata.usgs.gov, are used specifically for:
- Provide data inputs for watershed models:
- EPA/EPD RIV-1
- USGS/EPD Georgia DOSAG (1976)
- Provide data inputs for Inter-State basin management models:
- Coosa River Basin model
- Lake Weiss model
- Savannah River Harbor model
- Provides required (O.G.C. 391-3-6-.03) monitoring of inflows to impacted reservoirs:
- Lake Jackson
- West Point Lake
- Carters Lake
- Lake Allatoona
- Lake Weiss
- Provides characterization of watershed conditions at boundaries with neighboring States
- Assists Georgia EPD with:
- TMDL computation
- 305(b)/303(d) reporting and listing
- Wasteload allocation determinations
- Permitting and compliance decisions
- Database of long-term water-quality data for the State of Georgia:
- from the entire range of basin characteristics and all physiographic provinces
- collected using nationally consistent methods
- made available to the scientific community and the public via publications and NWIS-Web
- Data Used for:
- NAWQA MRB2 Nutrients Trends Analysis for South Atlantic Gulf and Tennessee Basin
- SPARROW model calibration
