Estimated water use in the Altamaha Water Planning Region was 239 Mgal/d in 2005, of which 132 Mgal/d or 55 percent was from groundwater and 107 Mgal/d or 45 percent was from surface water (Fanning and Trent, 2009). The largest water withdrawal in the region was for irrigation (90 Mgal/d) where an estimated 188,000 acres were irrigated in 2005. Industrial and thermoelectric power users in the region withdrew 62 Mgal/d and 58 Mgal/d respectively.
