The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with local, State, and other Federal agencies, monitors both surface water and ground water in the vicinity of Lake Lanier. Several surface-water gages are located between Lake Lanier and Atlanta, on the Chattahoochee River and several of its tributaries.
