Groundwater Information and Data
The U.S. Geological Survey collects groundwater level data at about 20,000 wells nationwide, xx here in Georgia. The USGS provides long-term, accurate, and unbiased information that meets the needs of many diverse users. The USGS collects groundwater data needed by Federal, State, and local agencies for planning and operating water-resources projects and regulatory programs.

Groundwater Networks
- Active Water-Level Network:
Quick look: The Active Groundwater Level Network contains water levels and well information from more than 20,000 wells that have been measured by the USGS or USGS cooperators at least once within the past 365 days. This network includes all of these wells, regardless of measurement frequency, aquifer monitored, or the monitoring objective. - Climate Response Network:
Quick look: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) measures more than 20,000 wells each year for a variety of objectives as part of Federal programs and in cooperation with State and local agencies. A small subset of these wells meets the criteria necessary to be included in a "Climate Response Network" of wells designed to illustrate the response of the groundwater system to climate variations nationwide. - Real-Time Network
Quick look: Real-time data typically are recorded at 15-60 minute intervals, stored onsite, and then transmitted to USGS offices every 1 to 4 hours, depending on the data relay technique used. Recording and transmission times may be more frequent during critical events. Data from real-time sites are relayed to USGS offices via satellite, telephone, and/or radio and are available for viewing within minutes of arrival.
